Up here in Uttarkashi, specifically in P.O. Rajgarhi within the Barkot Tehsil, our school has a bit of a different feel than those in the plains. Being a Kendriya Vidyalaya in a hilly region means we deal with things like cold winters and steep walks to get to the gate. The building is solid, built to handle the mountain weather, but it definitely looks like it has been through a few tough seasons. We have a view of the mountains that most people would pay for, but for us, it is just the backdrop of our daily work. The students here are hardy; they come from all over the local villages, often walking quite a distance to get here. Inside, the rooms are plain and we try to keep the heaters going when the temperature drops. We have the usual government-issued furniture and notice boards that are always a bit cluttered. Life is slower here in Barkot. We follow the standard schedule, but sometimes the weather dictates how the day goes. If there is heavy rain or snow, things might get delayed. The teachers and staff are like a small family because we are tucked away in this corner of Uttarakhand. We don't have much in the way of high-tech equipment, but we make do with what we have. It is about getting the children their education despite the geography. We just keep the doors open and the lessons going.
