Kolkata Hair Dressers

Our shop is located right at Hazira Chowk in Birla Nagar. Gwalior is a city with a lot of history, but our corner is mostly just busy workers and students. Kolkata Hair Dressers has been here for a while. The name comes from where my father learned the trade. He moved here years ago and set this up. We still use some of the old techniques he taught me. The chairs are old-fashioned, heavy iron ones that last forever. Birla Nagar is a bit noisy, especially with the traffic coming through the chowk. You hear a lot of horns honking while you're getting a haircut. We have a small radio that plays the news or some old songs to drown out the noise outside. It's not a big salon with glass walls or anything. It's just a room with mirrors and some combs. Sometimes we have a queue of five people out the door, especially on Sundays. Other days, I just sit on the bench outside and watch the city go by until someone walks in. We do hair cutting and shaving, that's it. No fancy creams or expensive treatments. Most people just want to look tidy for work. I like being part of the community here at Hazira Chowk. It feels like home after all these years. I remember the old tea seller who used to sit across from us. He is gone now, but the new guy makes decent ginger tea too.
