Anu General Store

Our little store is located right in the heart of Gurgaon Village 1. We opened it up quite a long time ago because we saw that people needed a place to get their daily supplies without having to travel all the way into the main city. We sell the usual things you’d expect like milk, bread, spices, and soap. It’s a small space, so we have things stacked up pretty high on the shelves. Sometimes you have to move a box of biscuits to find the washing powder you want. We aren't a big supermarket with bright lights and fancy aisles. It’s just a local shop where we know almost everyone who walks through the door. We hear all the news about what’s happening in the village while we’re weighing out sugar or counting change. Sometimes the delivery truck doesn't show up on time and we run out of bread, which is annoying for everyone, but we just wait for the next one. The floor gets a bit dusty because of the wind and the traffic outside, so we sweep it whenever we get a quiet minute. My kids often sit in the back doing their homework while I talk to the customers. It’s a very simple life here in Village 1. We don’t have a website or any flyers. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for the neighbors to stop by. It’s been a good way to live and stay connected with the community.
