Anndata Daal Traders

You can find us over at Plot No 1/682 on Raavan Teela Road. We are in the Sanjay Gandhi Colony part of Shanti Nagar. The main thing here is the daal. We have sacks of lentils piled up almost to the ceiling. Each bag has a different kind, like moong or toor or urad. The smell is very earthy and dry. We spend a lot of time sifting through things and making sure the bags are tied tight. It's a dusty business, mostly because of the husks and the grain. Customers come in and want to feel the quality between their fingers. They ask about the price per quintal and we haggle a bit. That’s just how it goes here. The road outside is usually busy with carts and bikes. Sometimes the dust from the street blows in and we have to sweep again. We don't have any fancy displays. It's just rows of sacks and a big scale for weighing. We’ve been trading here for a long time and know the farmers who bring the stuff in. It’s a lot of lifting and moving heavy weights. My back usually aches by the time we close up for the night. We keep the ledger books on a small wooden table. It’s a simple setup for a simple trade. People need to eat, so we stay busy keeping the pulses moving through the colony and beyond.
