Manushee Design Studio

Our studio is tucked away on the first floor of H.No 360 C in Palam Vihar. It’s in Block C-1, which is a fairly quiet spot compared to the main roads of Gurgaon. We started Manushee Design Studio because we just wanted a space to create things. The floor is usually covered in paper scraps and swatches of material. It’s not one of those glass-walled offices in the high-rises. It’s a residential building converted for work, so it feels more like a home. Sometimes the neighbor’s dog barks during our meetings, which can be a bit distracting. We spend hours at the drawing boards or on our computers trying to get a design right. We don’t really have a receptionist or a fancy lobby. If the bell rings, one of us just gets up to answer it. The light in the afternoon is actually quite nice through the big windows, which helps when we're trying to match colors. We’ve had the same old desks for years now. They’ve got scratches and ink stains, but they work fine. We take our lunches on the small balcony when the weather isn't too hot. It’s a small team, and we mostly just talk to each other and our suppliers. It’s simple work, really. We just try to finish our projects on time and keep the clients happy without making a big fuss about it. There is always a pot of coffee brewing in the kitchen, and that keeps us going through the long afternoons.
