We are located over at Plot B 34 in the IDC area on Mehrauli Road. Balaji Cork has been operating out of this industrial patch for a while now. If you’ve ever used a notice board or seen gaskets in an engine, you’ve probably seen the kind of stuff we work with. Cork is a funny material—it’s natural but it’s tough if you treat it right. Our space is mostly taken up by big sheets of the stuff and cutting machines that make a fair bit of noise. It’s an industrial area, so nobody minds the racket much. We have stacks of inventory waiting to be shipped out to different factories. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the crates and rolls. The air always smells a bit like wood and glue, which you get used to after five minutes. We aren't a huge multinational; we're more of a local supplier that handles the bulk orders for companies around Delhi and Gurgaon. Most of our day is spent checking the thickness of the sheets and making sure the cuts are clean. It’s steady work. We don’t have a fancy reception area or a coffee machine for guests. If someone comes by, they usually just talk to us right on the floor or near the loading dock. It’s just us doing our thing in a corner of the IDC, making sure the orders go out on time.
