We are out on Ghoghavadar Main Road in Gondal. Right next to Kishan Cement, you can’t miss it. The yard is full of heavy things. We make blocks and pipes and other cement stuff. It gets very hot out there in the sun. The workers are used to it though. We’ve been here for a long time. My uncle used to run it before I took over. It’s a lot of lifting and moving. The trucks come in early in the morning. Sometimes the dust gets in your eyes and throat. We have a small cabin for the accounts and to sit when it rains. It’s not fancy at all. Just a lot of grey concrete everywhere. The road outside is always busy with tractors. We deal with builders and people just fixing their own houses. We don’t do much advertising, word of mouth is enough for us. Sometimes a batch of cement doesn't set right and we have to start over. That’s just how it goes. We drink a lot of water and stay in the shade when we can. It’s hard work on your back. We aren't some big factory with robots. It’s just us and the mixers. People know us in Gondal. We try to be fair with everyone. It’s a simple business but it keeps the family going. We see the same faces every week. When the monsoon comes, things slow down a bit because the ground gets muddy and it's hard to move the heavy pipes. We just wait for the sun to come out again.
