Well Come Pan Bhandar

Our little spot is located at 1773/74 in the middle of Chandni Chowk. If you have ever been here, you know that this area is one of the most crowded places you could find. There are people, rickshaws, and handcarts moving in every direction at all hours of the day. Our shop is very small, barely more than a nook in the wall, but it serves our purpose well. We have a small wooden counter where we keep all our containers and leaves neatly stacked. Space is at a premium here, so we have to be very careful about where we put things. We don’t have room for chairs or a waiting area; people just stand in the narrow lane while we serve them. The building is ancient, and you can see the history in the old brickwork and the low, heavy ceilings. It gets incredibly hot in the summer, so we usually have a small table fan blowing directly on us. We have been in this same spot for a long time, and we know most of the other vendors on this block. We share tea in the afternoons and keep an eye on each other’s shops. It’s a tight-knit community despite the constant noise and the thousands of strangers passing by. We don’t use any modern marketing or big signs. People find us because we’ve always been here. It’s a simple, traditional way of doing things in old Delhi.
