Babu Lal Halwai

Babu Lal Halwai is based at House Number 1 in Poorvanchal Colony, over in the New Basti area of Nandgram. We are right opposite the Ashram, which is the easiest way to find us if you are new to the area. I have been working as a halwai for many years, following the old ways of doing things. This is not a big industrial kitchen; it is a local operation where we make things by hand. The house is always smelling of sweets and fried snacks, which is something the neighbors are used to by now. Ghaziabad has many halwais, but we stay busy with our own local customers in Nandgram. Poorvanchal Colony is a tight community and everyone knows everyone else. We don't have a fancy website or any big advertisements. People just know our name and come to the house when they have a wedding or a festival coming up. It is honest work and can be quite tiring, especially during the festival season when we are up before dawn. We just focus on making the sweets the way they should be made. Sometimes we run out of things early in the day, but that is just how it goes when you make everything fresh. If you are near the Ashram in New Basti, just look for House Number 1. You will probably find me there working on the next batch of orders.
