You can find Rastogi Ice Factory at A-14 in the Roop Nagar Industrial Area, which is part of Loni. Since we are in an industrial zone, it’s pretty dusty and there are trucks moving around constantly. Our business is all about making large quantities of ice for the local markets and other businesses. It’s a big concrete building with a lot of pipes and cooling towers on the roof. We don’t really have customers walking in for a single piece of ice; it’s mostly wholesale stuff. The guys work in shifts because the machines have to keep running to maintain the temperature in the freezing tanks. It gets very cold inside the production area, which is a bit of a relief when the weather outside is boiling. We’ve had to fix the old generator a few times lately because the power in Loni can be a bit unreliable. It’s a noisy environment with the hum of the motors and the sound of the ice blocks being moved onto the loading bay. We don’t spend money on fancy signs or marketing materials. Most people who need ice in this area already know where we are located. It’s just a practical business focused on production. We keep our heads down and make sure the orders are ready when the trucks arrive in the morning. It’s a simple, tough business but someone has to do it to keep everything else cold.
