Radha Rice Mills

Radha Rice Mills is over at Kothi No-92, right across from the New Bus Stand. You can't really miss the place if you're waiting for a bus or just walking by. It stays pretty busy here most days. The sound of the machines starts up early in the morning and doesn't really stop until late. There is always a layer of dust on the windows, but that is just how it goes when you are dealing with this much grain. We have been in this spot for quite a while now. The building itself is nothing special to look at, just a practical space where the work gets done. Some of us have been working here since we were much younger. You see the same faces every day, both the guys working the floor and the drivers bringing in the loads. It gets crowded when the trucks pull in because the road is narrow right there by the bus stand. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially when it’s humid and the rice sticks more than it should. We just keep the motors running and move the bags out as fast as they come in. It is a noisy job, and your clothes always smell like toasted husks at the end of the shift. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just a small desk with a lot of papers on it and a fan that squeaks. It’s honest work.
