If you’re driving down GT Road, you’ll find Monika Herbs Pvt. Ltd. tucked away at 102, right behind the Raj Apartments. It’s a busy road, and there’s almost always a traffic jam somewhere nearby. We’ve been at this location for a while, and the neighborhood knows us mostly by the smell of the dried herbs we store in the back. Sometimes it’s very strong, like peppermint or tulsi, and it sticks to your clothes by the end of the day. The building is an older one, and we’ve had to patch up the walls a few times. Inside, we have rooms filled with sacks of various botanicals and herbs. We spend our days sorting through them, making sure they’re dry and clean. It’s dusty work, and we usually wear masks to keep from sneezing all the time. Our office is just a small room near the entrance where we keep the ledger and a telephone. We aren't into high-tech solutions; we mostly rely on our eyes and hands to check the quality of what we’re buying and selling. The staff is mostly local people who walk or bike to work. We start early in the morning before the GT Road traffic gets too loud, and we usually wrap up by sunset. It’s just a plain, hardworking herb business without any fancy bells or whistles. We just focus on getting the herbs sorted and sent out.
