Lala Ji Chaat Corner

Turab Nagar is one of those markets where you have to squeeze past people to get anywhere. At number 401, Lala Ji Chaat Corner is right in the thick of it. We have a big tawa that stays hot all day long, and the smell of roasting potatoes is everywhere. It’s not a fancy place to sit down; most people just stand on the edge of the road with their plates. We go through a lot of tamarind water and green chilies every day. My hands are usually stained from the spices, and the heat from the stove makes it hard to breathe sometimes. We start prepping the ingredients early in the afternoon so we are ready when the market gets busy. The noise from the shoppers and the honking scooters is constant. We’ve had the same spot for years, and not much has changed except the prices of vegetables going up. Some people want extra spice, others want more yogurt, and we just try to remember who asked for what. It’s a messy business, with water on the floor and empty leaf bowls in the bin, but that’s how a chaat stall works. We don't have a website or anything like that. If you want to find us, you just look for the crowd near the 401 sign in Turab Nagar. It is loud and hot, but we are used to it by now.
