Iron & Steel Trading is right in Nehru Nagar at 211 Loha Mandi. If you know the area, you know how loud it gets with all the steel being moved around. Our shop is one of many, but we’ve been at this spot for a long time. The address 211 Loha Mandi is easy to find once you get past the main gate. We deal with heavy stuff, so there is always a layer of dust on everything. My hands are usually a bit grey from touching the iron all day. We have a heavy iron door that we slide open every morning at eight. Inside, there are stacks of steel bars and plates everywhere. We have to be careful where we walk. The office part is just a small corner with a wooden table and a couple of old ledgers. We don’t have air conditioning, so we keep the doors open for the breeze. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the narrow lanes of Nehru Nagar, and we have to go out and help guide them. It’s just part of the daily routine here. We know the other traders nearby, and we often share a cup of tea or talk about the market prices. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. We just focus on the trading and making sure the counts are right before the trucks leave the yard. It is hard work.
