Gulshan-E-Maher School

You can find us on Sarkhej Road in Ahmedabad. It is a busy part of town and there is always something going on right outside our doors. The school has been here for a while and the building shows a bit of its age, but it is sturdy. We have several floors of classrooms and the kids spend a lot of time running up and down the stairs, no matter how many times we tell them to walk slowly. Our staff is mostly made up of people who live right here in the Sarkhej area. We know the local families and we often see the kids playing in the streets after school is over. It is a very down-to-earth kind of place. We do not have fancy carpets or expensive art on the walls. It is just desks, chairs, and blackboards. The teachers spend their free periods grading papers or just catching their breath in the staff room. We deal with the usual things, like a leaky tap or a lightbulb that needs changing. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we are always glad when the day ends and we can go home. We are just trying to provide a place for the local kids to go and get their education without making it too complicated. It is honest, hard work and we are just regular people doing our part in the neighborhood.
