Sri Venkateshwara Industries & Hitech Rice Mill

Down here at No:24B, Chinna Suraikai Patti, things stay pretty loud because of the machines. Sri Venkateshwara Industries & Hitech Rice Mill is where we spend our whole day. It’s not a clean job, there is always rice dust in the air and on our clothes, but that is just part of the work. We handle a lot of grain coming in from the local fields. The "Hitech" part of the name makes it sound like we have robots, but really it's just some newer machinery that helps us process the rice faster than the old ways. We’ve been in Chinna Suraikai Patti for quite a while now. The building itself is big and can get quite hot in the afternoon. We mostly deal with farmers and traders who know the quality of the rice we put out. It’s a lot of heavy bags to move around, so we stay pretty tired by the end of the shift. You won't find any fancy offices here, just the mill and the space where we store the sacks. We just focus on getting the husks off and making sure the rice is ready for the market. It’s hard work, but someone has to do it. The neighbors are used to the sound of the mill running. We just try to keep things moving along smoothly every day. It is a noisy life, but we like being part of the local industry.
