Kaarmegam Oil Mills is down at 9/761 Kangeyam Road in Muthur. If you are driving along Kangeyam Road, you can usually smell the oil before you even see the mill. It is a strong, earthy scent that stays in your clothes all day. The mill itself is a busy place with a lot of noise from the presses and the motors. We have been here in Muthur for quite a while, and the routine hasn't changed much over the years. We start early when the sun is just coming up to beat the heat of the afternoon. The workers are mostly local guys who have been doing this kind of work since they were young. We sit outside on benches during our breaks and watch the traffic go by on the road. It is honest work that leaves you tired at the end of the shift. We fill the bottles, load the trucks, and keep the machines running. That is how life goes for us here at the mill.
