K J Rice Mill

We run K J Rice Mill, located right on Karur Main Road, just at the turn near Annamarkovil. The mill has been part of this Kolanalli stretch for quite some time now. Every morning starts early here with the sound of the machines getting warmed up. It gets pretty dusty inside when we are processing the paddy, but that is just how a rice mill is. Farmers from around the Erode area bring their loads in on tractors or small trucks. We spend a lot of time just managing the bags and making sure everything is moved to the right spot. The sun hits the front of the building quite hard in the afternoons. Sometimes the traffic on the Erode to Karur road is so loud you have to shout to be heard over the engines. We don't have a big fancy office, just a small space where we keep the records and talk to people who stop by. Most days it is just about keeping the grain moving and making sure the equipment doesn't jam up. It is hard work and your clothes usually end up covered in husk by the time you go home. The neighbors know us by the hum of the motors. We just stay busy with what needs doing today. It isn't a complicated setup but it keeps us on our feet from sunrise until we close up the gates for the night.
