Taj Malabar

Our hotel is out on Malabar Road at the north end of Willingdon Island. To get here you have to cross the bridges and drive past the port area where all the big ships and containers are. It’s a different part of the city because it feels more industrial until you reach our gate. Once you are inside the property you can see the water all around. We have a lot of staff who have lived in Kochi their whole lives and they know the island very well. The building itself has an older section and a newer part and we spend a lot of time maintaining both. We see the ferry boats passing by the jetty every day. The ships are huge. The weather is usually hot and we have to keep the gardens watered so they don't dry out. The kitchen prepares a lot of seafood since we are right by the coast. We spend our days managing the rooms and helping people with their bags. It’s a lot of walking and the humidity can be tiring but we are used to it. Sometimes the big ships blow their horns and you can hear it across the whole island. We have a few restaurants on the site and they stay busy during the dinner hours. It’s a quiet life out here on the island compared to the main city and we like the pace of it.
