Munambam Fresh Fish Traders Association

Our group is the Munambam Fresh Fish Traders Association. We operate out of Shoolapani Sukumaran’s place, the Chempangattu House, right near Munambam Palliport. It is a very local setup. Most of us grew up around the water here in Ernakulam, so fish is basically all we know. We aren't some big corporate entity with a fancy lobby. We usually meet up at the house or down by the boats to talk about prices and who is bringing in what for the day. Being part of the association means we look out for the guys who go out on the boats every night. The floor at our meeting spot usually has some sand on it and there’s always a sea breeze coming through the windows. It’s honest work, even if it’s a bit smelly and loud at times. We deal with the fresh catch every single day. If the weather is bad, things get quiet, but usually, it’s a lot of shouting and moving crates around. We’ve been doing this for years under the name Munambam Fresh Fish. It’s just how life goes in this part of Ernakulam. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are and come to find us at Shoolapani's house when they need to talk business.
