Home Made Pickles started right in a kitchen here in Pratab Nagar on Laldih Cement Road. We didn't really plan on it becoming a whole thing, but people liked what we were making. Most of our time is spent cutting vegetables and mixing them with spices. It gets very hot in the kitchen, especially during the summer months when we have to dry everything out in the sun. The smell of mustard oil and chili is always in the air around our place. We get our jars from a local supplier and spend hours filling them up and making sure the lids are on tight. It’s a lot of manual work, and our hands often stay stained from the turmeric for days. Living on Cement Road means there is always some noise from the trucks, but we just stay focused on the work. We use the recipes that have been in the family for a long time, nothing fancy or modern. Sometimes we run out of a certain type of pickle because the right fruit isn't in season, and we just have to tell people to wait. It’s not a factory; it’s just a few of us working together in a small space. We don't have a big storefront, just a place where we manage everything from the preparation to the packing. It’s honest work and keeps us very busy throughout the year. We just do our best to keep things tasting right.
