Up here in Shillong, the weather is almost always a bit damp and cool. Our school is situated in a quiet spot, and you can often see the mist rolling in through the windows in the morning. It makes for a very different atmosphere than schools down in the plains. The building is made to handle the rain, with a sloped roof that keeps the water moving. We spend a lot of time making sure the floors are dry so no one slips. The kids come in wearing their sweaters and jackets, and there is always a bit of mud on the boots that we have to sweep up. It’s a small community here, and the school is a big part of it. We don't have many fancy facilities, just the basic classrooms and a small area for playing. Sometimes the clouds get so thick that we have to turn the lights on even in the middle of the day. We follow a simple schedule and don't worry too much about having the latest equipment. As long as we have books and the kids are showing up, we are happy. The tea we drink during the breaks is the best part of the day, honestly. It helps us stay warm while we grade the papers. It is a quiet, steady life here in the hills, and we like it that way. We've been here for many years and everyone knows the path up.
