Our place is located right behind the Tularam Agarwal School in Durg. If you’re driving through Chhattisgarh, you might miss the turn if you aren’t looking for it. We work with ingots and power stuff, which basically means a lot of heavy lifting and keeping an eye on the machinery. The heat in Durg can be something else, especially in the middle of May, so we try to get the hardest work done before the sun gets too high. It’s an industrial sort of life here. We aren’t sitting in fancy leather chairs; it’s mostly boots and dusty floors around the plant. Having the school nearby is a good landmark for people trying to find us. We have a solid group of guys who have been here for years. They know how the machines sound when something isn’t quite right. We spend a lot of time checking meters and making sure the power side of things stays steady. It’s not a quiet job by any means. There’s always some kind of hum or clanging going on in the background. We eat our lunch together in the shade when we can. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes we have to stay late if a shipment is coming in or if a machine needs a bit of extra attention. We just focus on what’s in front of us and try to keep things running properly day after day.
