Our office is over at A-1/16 in the Panchsheel Enclave area of New Delhi. We are on the first floor. This is where we deal with a lot of the visa processing and document stuff that people need for traveling abroad. It’s often quite busy with people coming in and out, bringing their passports and filling out forms. The office has a lot of counters and waiting chairs for the public. It can get a bit tense because people are usually worried about their travel plans or their papers not being exactly right. We just try to take the documents, check them against the list, and move things along to the next step. There is a lot of checking and double-checking involved because mistakes with passports are a big deal. The neighborhood is a bit more upscale, so it’s a bit quieter outside than some other parts of Delhi, but inside it’s a constant stream of activity. We have to follow a lot of rules and protocols, which can be a bit boring, but that's how it is with government and embassy work. We don't make the decisions on the visas ourselves; we just handle the middle part of the process. It’s a lot of scanning, filing, and organizing folders. We just try to keep the line moving so nobody has to wait longer than they have to. Most days are just about managing the crowd and the paperwork.
