Being a travel agent is mostly about being on the phone and staring at a screen for hours. We don't have a fixed office address listed right now, which sounds a bit strange to some people, but in this line of work, you can do a lot from just about anywhere as long as you have a good internet connection and a working phone. We spend the day looking for tickets, checking hotel availability, and trying to fix things when a bus or a flight gets canceled at the last minute. It is a lot of back-and-forth communication with people who are usually in a bit of a hurry. Sometimes it gets difficult when the booking systems go down or when prices change while you are right in the middle of talking to a client. We don’t have a big shop front with shiny posters in the window, so we rely heavily on people calling us up or sending messages. It’s a very hands-on job even if we aren't sitting in a traditional office building. We handle the paperwork, the visas, and all those small details that people usually don't want to deal with themselves. Most of the time, we are just helping neighbors or friends who need to get from one place to another without too much trouble. It is honest work and it keeps us busy enough throughout the week. We might not have a physical spot on the map to point to, but we are always around.
