We have people working in Pune, Mumbai, and New Delhi, so things are always moving across different time zones even within the country. Our desks are usually a mess of newspapers, half-empty coffee mugs, and chargers for phones that never seem to stay powered up. The New Delhi office gets pretty cold in the winter months, so you’ll see everyone wearing their thick sweaters while they type away. In Mumbai, the humidity is the main thing we talk about while waiting for the elevator to arrive. We don’t really have a central spot where everyone meets because we are spread out, but we use the phones and computers to stay in touch about what’s happening in the news. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting for information to come in, then a sudden rush to get it all written down before the day ends. The chairs in the Pune office are a bit more comfortable than the ones in Delhi, or at least that’s what the staff there tells us. We keep a lot of old archives in boxes stacked in the corners because you never know when you might need to look something up from five years ago. It’s a noisy environment most of the time with people shouting across the room or the sound of printers going off in the background. We just try to get the work done and head home before the traffic gets too bad. It's a busy life.
