Working at The Park Hotel is quite a trip. It’s a big building, but when you are behind the scenes, it feels much smaller and more crowded. We spend our days running around the hallways or standing at the front desks helping whoever walks in. It’s not always as fancy as it looks from the outside. There’s a lot of old equipment in the back rooms and the laundry area is always incredibly hot no matter the season. We are constantly moving, trying to keep up with the guests who come from all over the world. It’s a lot of standing and a lot of smiling, even when your feet really hurt. The hotel has been around for a while, and you can see it in the little corners that haven't been renovated recently. We have a small break room where the staff sits and complains about the long shifts or talks about their families. It’s a weird mix of luxury for the guests and hard work for the rest of us. We don't really think of it as some grand mission; it's just a job that keeps us busy twenty-four hours a day. Someone is always here, whether it’s three in the morning or the middle of the afternoon. We see a lot of interesting people, but mostly we are just focused on the next task, like fixing a leaky tap or getting a room ready. It’s a bustling environment.
