Taj Palace New Delhi

Working at the Taj Palace here in New Delhi is quite an experience. People see the big building and the fancy lights from the outside, but for us, it’s just our workplace. We are in the back areas or behind the desks most of the day. It’s a huge place and honestly, you can get lost in the hallways if you are new. We have a lot of rooms and a lot of people coming through from all over the world. It’s busy from early morning until very late at night. Sometimes it feels like the building never sleeps. We spend a lot of time making sure everything looks right, even if it’s just fixing a rug or clearing away some glasses. It isn't always glamorous. There is a lot of heavy lifting and running around involved. The kitchens are always loud and smell like spices and bread. We don't really think about it as a world-class hotel when we are in the middle of a shift. To us, it’s just making sure the guests have what they need and that things run smoothly. We have a good team of people here who have been around for a long time. We know each other’s families and we share meals in the staff room when we get a break. It’s a big operation, but at the end of the day, it’s just us doing our jobs. We try to stay focused even when the place is packed for a big wedding or a huge conference.
