This is the engineering department stores for Spicejet Ltd, specifically over at Terminal 1,A in the Cargo Complex. We are based right at the IGI Airport in Palam, New Delhi. If you’ve ever been around the cargo area, you know it’s a lot of metal, trucks, and concrete. It’s not the part of the airport where passengers go to buy coffee or wait for flights. We handle the spare parts and tools that the engineers need to keep the planes flying. Suresh Singh is often the name people look for here. It’s a gritty job, to be honest. There is grease on the floor sometimes and the smell of jet fuel is always in the air. We spend our shifts counting inventory, moving crates, and making sure the mechanics have what they need when a plane lands. The weather gets really hot out on the tarmac, especially in the Delhi summer, so we spend a lot of time drinking water in the shade of the warehouse. We are just a small part of a much bigger airline, but without this store, things wouldn't move very well. It’s mostly just a group of guys in uniforms making sure the nuts and bolts are where they belong. We don't have fancy office chairs or carpeted floors. It’s a warehouse environment through and through. We’ve been here at Palam for years, just doing the daily grind. We keep the inventory lists on old clipboards and try to stay on top of all the deliveries that come through the gates.
