Soni Enterprises

Soni Enterprises is our place at Kashmere Gate Shop No 727/A, Chhota Bazar. If you know the area, you know how narrow the lanes are and how many people are always moving around. It’s a bit of a maze back here. We deal in various spare parts and small hardware items that people need for their machines. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, and I usually need a ladder to reach the stuff at the top. It’s dusty work and my hands are usually dirty by the end of the day. We have been in this same spot for a long time, and the building is quite old. Sometimes the roof leaks a little when it rains heavily, so we have to move the stock around to keep it dry. I share the space with my brother, and we often argue about where things should be kept. We don't have a computer system for the stock; we just remember where everything is or look it up in an old notebook. Customers come from all over the city because they know we might have that one odd part they can’t find anywhere else. It’s a lot of waiting around sometimes and then a sudden rush of people all at once. We just keep the shutters open and see who comes in. It’s an honest way to earn a living in a busy market.
