You can find Bentex Trading Co at 1536/28 in Karol Bagh. This area is a maze of shops and narrow lanes. We’ve been operating out of this space for quite some time now. We handle a variety of trading goods, mostly small hardware and household items. The shop has high ceilings, so we use ladders a lot to get things down for customers. It’s a bit of a workout. The air in Karol Bagh is always thick with the smell of street food and exhaust. We open up the shutters early in the morning and the first thing we do is sweep the front. It’s a never-ending battle with the dust. We have a couple of old wooden desks where we do all our bookkeeping by hand. We aren't big on computers here. It’s just simpler this way. We know our customers by name usually. They come in for a few pieces of this or a box of that. It’s not a fast-paced corporate environment. We take our time and make sure the count is right. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the lane, and we have to help move things. It’s a community effort. We stay open until the sun goes down and the market lights come on. It’s a steady life and we’re content with it.
