It’s always busy here in Janak Place. Most mornings start with the sound of the shutters going up and the cleaning crew moving through the aisles. This building at the District Centre has been around for quite a while now. You can see the wear on the seats if you look close, but it serves the purpose. People from around Janakpuri come in for the big afternoon shows, usually making a lot of noise in the lobby. We spend a lot of time just keeping the popcorn machines running and making sure the projectors don’t act up. The air conditioning can be a bit finicky during the peak of summer, so we’re always checking the vents. It’s a loud place, especially on weekends when the college kids show up in groups. Sometimes the queues for tickets get out of hand and spill out toward the stairs. We try to keep things moving so nobody misses the start of their movie. It’s just us here, doing the same thing every day, from the first morning matinee to the late-night show that ends after midnight. The district centre outside is always a mess of cars and people selling things, which makes getting to work a bit of a hassle. Once you're inside the dark hall, though, all that noise disappears for a couple of hours. We just focus on getting the prints ready and the snacks served before the interval rush hits us again. It’s a lot of walking back and forth.
