R K Khanna Tennis Complex sits right on African Avenue in Safdarjung Enclave. It’s a big place, and if you’ve lived in this part of Delhi for a while, you probably know the gates. We have a lot of courts here. People come at all hours, usually early in the morning before the sun gets too hot or late in the evening when things cool down a bit. It’s not just for pros, though we do host some big tournaments sometimes. You’ll see kids learning their first swing and older folks who have been playing here for decades. The pavement gets a bit worn out in spots, and the sun can be brutal on the stands, but that’s just part of the game. We focus on keeping the nets up and the lights working so people can play. There’s a certain sound to the place, the constant thud of balls and people shouting across the courts. It’s a busy environment. Working here means dealing with a lot of schedules and making sure the courts are ready. Safdarjung Enclave is a quiet enough area, but once you step inside these gates, it’s all about the sport. We don't have fancy lounges or anything like that. It’s just a solid place to get some exercise and hit some balls. People know us for being around and having enough space for everyone. It’s just how we operate day to day on African Avenue.
