Sandhu Tools Room

Working in the Anand Parbat Industrial Area means living with a constant background of grinding metal. Our shop is at A-31 B on Gali No 4N. It’s a rough and ready kind of place. We have a few lathes and some milling machines that have been around for years. They are heavy and they take up most of the floor space. We make tools and dies for other small factories in the area. It is precision work, but the environment is anything but clean. There are metal shavings everywhere. You have to be careful where you step. We spend our days measuring things with calipers and making sure the cuts are right. If a tool is off by a hair, the whole job is ruined. We drink our tea standing up because there isn't much room to sit. The lighting isn't the best, but we make it work with some extra lamps over the machines. It’s a small team, just a few guys who have been working with metal since they were teenagers. We don't have a salesman. People just come to the door of A-31 B because they know we can handle the tricky jobs. Sometimes we stay late when a machine breaks down and needs to be fixed before the morning shift. It’s just the life of a tool room in an industrial belt.
