Our office is on the third floor of a building at 1743 Uday Chand Marg. If you have ever been to Kotla Mubarakpur, you know how the traffic and the noise can get. It is quite a long walk up the stairs every morning, especially in the Delhi summer when the air is thick and hot. We have a few desks squeezed into the small space and there are always stacks of papers or old folders sitting around on the floor. Usually, the phone is ringing with someone asking about a bus ticket or a flight price. It gets pretty loud outside with the honking and the street vendors yelling, but inside we just try to get the bookings finished. We drink a lot of tea while we work to stay awake. The area is a bit cramped, and finding a place to park is almost impossible on most days of the week. We have been in this spot for a good while, so we know all the local shops and where to get the best snacks nearby for lunch. Most of the day is spent looking at computer screens or talking to people who walk in off the street with questions. We don’t have a big reception area or anything like that. It’s just a plain room where we handle the travel stuff for everyone. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, and we just sit and wait for it to come back. It isn’t a fancy setup.
