Our little place, Sai Telecom, is at B-110 in Lajpat Nagar I. If you know this area, you know how busy the markets get, especially on the weekends. We have a small storefront that is mostly taken up by a big display of mobile accessories. I’ve lived around here for years, so a lot of the people coming in are just neighbors. They might need a new screen guard because they dropped their phone on the pavement, or they just need a second-hand charger because they lost theirs. The shop is a bit narrow, so we have to be careful how we stack the inventory. There is always a pile of empty cardboard boxes in the corner waiting to be cleared out. We don’t have any fancy air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that clicks a bit when it's on high. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there in the dark talking to whoever is in the shop. It is a simple life. We fix what we can and sell what people need. Most of my day is spent looking at tiny screws or trying to get a SIM card to fit into a tray. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting for the next person to walk through the door with a cracked screen or a dead battery. I keep a bottle of water under the desk because it gets so dry during the summer months here. People just want their phones to work.
