Pot Potpourrie, Nirulas

Pot Potpourrie, Nirulas is over in Pocket-A, 32-A of Dilshad Garden. Most people in this part of New Delhi know us for the food and the ice cream. It is a small, cozy spot where families come on the weekends. We spend our time behind the counter or in the kitchen getting things ready. The smell of the hot chocolate fudge is something you get used to after working here for a few days. We have booths where people sit and talk for hours. The floor gets a bit sticky when the kids come in with their cones, but we just mop it up and keep going. It isn't a high-end restaurant with white tablecloths. It’s a place where you can come in your casual clothes and just have a snack. We have a menu that hasn't changed much because people like what they know. The staff knows most of the kids who live on the block. We spend a lot of our shift refilling the napkin holders and making sure the soda machine is working right. It gets really crowded on Sunday evenings, and the noise of people laughing and talking fills the whole room. We just keep serving the food and clearing the plates. It is a simple way to spend a day. We like being the local spot where everyone feels okay just dropping in for a bit.
