Picture Corner

People sometimes miss the entrance to Raje Bhawan since it's on the first floor, but if you look up near Moti Cinema on Deewan Hall Road, you'll find us. We have been sitting here at Picture Corner for quite a long time now. It’s a busy part of Chandni Chowk, always loud outside, but inside we just focus on the frames. We handle a lot of different types of pictures, from old family photos that are falling apart to new posters people want to hang up. The workshop isn't very big, and there is usually sawdust on the floor by noon. My hands are usually a bit stained from the wood polish or glue, but that is just how the job goes. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights. It is mostly just stacks of wood molding and glass leaning against the walls. Customers come in, show us what they have, and we figure out a frame that fits. Sometimes the wood takes a few days to arrive, or we have to wait for a specific size of glass to be cut down. It’s steady work. We see a lot of people from the neighborhood who have lived here as long as we have. We try to get things done right, though sometimes the traffic outside makes deliveries a bit of a headache. If you're walking past the cinema, you can just head up the stairs. We are usually here until late evening when the market starts to quiet down a bit.
