Pearl has been operating between Hauz Khas and our other spot at H. No.79, St. 4 in Tukhmeer Pur. New Delhi is a big place, and these two locations are quite different from each other. Hauz Khas is where a lot of the design and creative energy happens, while Tukhmeer Pur is more about the ground-level work. We deal with a lot of fabrics and garment work, so there are always scraps of thread and cloth lying around the floor. Street number 4 is usually pretty busy with neighbors and local kids playing, so it’s never quiet. We have a few sewing machines and cutting tables squeezed into the house. It’s not a fancy showroom by any means. It’s a workshop where people are actually making things with their hands. Most of the staff has been with us for a while, so we all know the routine. Sometimes we have to rush between the two sites to get samples approved or to check on a batch of work. The N.Delhi-16 area is great but the traffic makes the commute to Tukhmeer Pur a bit of a chore. We just focus on getting the pieces finished correctly and making sure the measurements are right. It is a small, honest business run by people who know their way around a needle and thread.
