The sun comes up over Karnawas and we start our day at the hotel. It is a quiet village area in Rewari and things move a bit slower here than in the big city. We spend most of our time making sure the rooms are tidy and the water is running right. People come through for different reasons, some just passing on the road and others staying for a few nights while they do work nearby. It gets dusty outside because of the location, so someone is always sweeping the front steps. We keep a few chairs out there for when the evening gets cool and the light starts to fade. It is not a fancy place with gold curtains, just a building with beds and some space to sit. Most of us grew up around here, so we know the roads and where to find things if someone asks. The kitchen gets busy around breakfast time with the smell of tea and bread filling up the hallway. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, but that is just how it is in this part of Rewari. We have some plants in pots near the entrance that we try to keep green. Dealing with guests keeps us on our toes, even on slow days when the phone doesn't ring much. It is honest work and we have been at it for a while now. Just a group of people making sure the place stays open and ready for whoever stops by.
