Out here in Maruti Kunj, things are always moving. Our spot at 1291 is usually full of people coming in with mud on their shoes from the various sites nearby. Gurgaon is growing fast, and being in this part of town means we see a lot of the new construction firsthand. The office itself is pretty basic. We have a few desks, some blueprints rolled up in the corners, and a water cooler that always seems to run out on the hottest days. Omaxe has a lot of projects, but this location is where a lot of the ground-level stuff gets sorted out. We talk to contractors, check on supply deliveries, and deal with the local weather that makes the roads here quite bumpy. It is not like the shiny glass buildings in Cyber City. Here, it is about the actual building materials and the labor. We drink a lot of tea while looking over site maps. The power cuts happen sometimes, so we have a small generator that hums away in the back. Working in Maruti Kunj means you get used to the dust and the sound of trucks passing by. It is a practical environment for people who are actually building things. We are not big on fancy meetings; we just stand around a table and figure out the day’s problems. It is a busy life, but it is what we do. Someone is always checking the bricks or the cement orders while the phone rings in the background.
