New Gramophone House

If you find yourself in Chandni Chowk, you have to look for the Pleasure Garden Market to find New Gramophone House at B-31. This shop is a bit different from the modern places around here because it is full of old records and music history. The air always smells a bit like old paper and vinyl. We have stacks of records reaching up to the ceiling, and sometimes it feels like the whole place might tip over if you pull the wrong one out. People come from everywhere to dig through the crates. It’s a bit dusty, and the floorboards creak when you walk around, but that’s part of the charm of being in such an old part of the city. We spend our time cleaning discs and talking to people about musicians from fifty years ago. Chandni Chowk is incredibly loud and crowded outside, but once you step inside, it feels a bit slower, even if it’s still cramped. We don't use any fancy computer systems to find things; we mostly just know where everything is by memory. It’s a bit of a muddle, but it works for us. We’ve been here for a long time, and we’ve seen the music business change from records to tapes to digital, yet people still come back for the old stuff. It’s a lot of work keeping everything organized, but we enjoy the quiet moments when a customer finds exactly what they wanted among the stacks.
