We spend a lot of time here at the Naval Officers Mess over on Shahjahan Road. It’s an old building, Kota House, and you can really feel the history when you walk through the doors. Most of us are just busy keeping things running every day. New Delhi is a crowded place, but inside these gates, it feels a bit quieter. We aren't trying to be fancy, even though the name sounds like it. It's mostly about making sure the people who stay here have a place to sit down and a bit of a meal. The staff has been around for quite a while, and we know the corners of this place pretty well. Sometimes the plumbing acts up because the house is old, but we get it fixed eventually. People come and go, mostly officers and their families, and we just try to keep the lights on and the tea hot. It’s not a big corporate operation, just us doing our jobs in this part of the city. We don't have a big fancy website or anything like that. If you're looking for us, we're right near the main road. It gets busy during the day with traffic outside, but we just stay focused on what’s happening in the kitchen and the dining rooms. It’s simple work, really. We've got a routine that works for everyone. It's just a regular part of life for us here at the mess.
