Libeno Restaurant

We are tucked away in 20-A, Pocket B-4 of Mayur Vihar Phase-III. It’s a busy corner of New Delhi, and most days start pretty early here at Libeno Restaurant. You can hear the traffic starting up before the sun is even fully out. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen just getting things ready for the lunch rush. It’s not a huge place, just enough space for some tables and a counter where we keep the bills. The floor gets a bit scuffed from all the shoes, and sometimes the fan in the corner makes a little clicking noise that we’ve gotten used to over the years. We know most of the people who walk through the door because they live right around the corner or work in the nearby shops. It’s just us running things, trying to keep the food hot and the water glasses full. Sometimes we run out of something on the menu, and we just have to tell people we will have it tomorrow. That’s just how it goes here. The light comes in through the front window in the afternoon and hits the wall where we hung a few old pictures. It’s a simple life in Mayur Vihar. We don't have fancy uniforms or anything like that. We just wear what’s comfortable for working near a hot stove all day long. It is a lot of work, but it is what we do every day.
