Lhotel Tourist Lodge Delhi

I came up to Delhi to work in the lodge business, but my roots are still back at X-16, South Road in Burnpur. My father, Mr. Sudhakar Shukla, is still down there in Asansol, and I try to go back whenever I can get a break from the city. Running a tourist lodge here is a lot of work, mostly involving changing sheets, checking people in at midnight, and making sure the water heaters are working. It’s a small operation, and we don't have a big staff, so I end up doing a bit of everything myself. The guests come from all over, and they usually arrive tired and hungry, so I try to point them to the best local food stalls that won’t upset their stomachs. It gets really loud and crowded in this part of Delhi, which is a big change from the quieter life back in West Bengal. I spend a lot of time on the phone with my family back home, telling them about the people I meet and the chaos of the city. The lodge isn't a five-star hotel by any means, but it’s a roof over your head and a decent place to sleep for a fair price. I keep things clean and try to be fair with everyone who walks in. It’s a tough way to make a living, but it keeps me busy and helps me support the folks back in Asansol.
