Kitchen, Housekeeping

Our setup is at B/120 in Laxmi Garden over in Loni. We deal with all the cooking and cleaning stuff that people need. The building is a simple one on a dusty road and we have been here for a good while. In the kitchen area the stoves are always going and there is a lot of chopping and washing to do. We spend hours on our feet moving from one task to another. Housekeeping means we are always looking for dirt and making sure things are put back where they belong. We use a lot of soap and water and the floor is usually wet in some spot or another. Loni is a busy place with a lot of people so there is always work to be done. We don't have fancy equipment. We use buckets and mops and our own hands. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use flashlights to finish the cleaning. We are a small group of workers who know each other well. We talk about our families while we work. It is not a glamorous job but it is what we do. We take pride in seeing a room look better than it did when we started. The kitchen smells like onions and fried spices most of the day. We just keep our heads down and get through the list.
