Khandwa Haveli

Pravin Rathore runs things here at B-66 in Hathi Babu Ka Hatha. We are right behind Kanji Sweets. If you know Jaipur, you know where Polovictory Cinema is; we are just opposite that area. The building is an old style haveli, which means there are lots of little corners and stairs that don't always make sense. The stone walls keep it a bit cooler, but in the middle of summer, nothing really helps. We spend a lot of time sweeping the courtyard because the wind brings in a lot of sand from the streets. There’s always the smell of sweets from the shop next door, which is nice in the morning. We have a few rooms and a small area where people can sit. The furniture is a mix of stuff we’ve collected over the years. Some of the doors creak when you open them. It’s not like those big modern hotels you see in the brochures. This is a real house where people stay. We have a lot of regular faces coming through. The neighborhood is loud and busy, especially when a movie lets out at the cinema. We try to keep things simple. There’s no big reception desk, just a table and a register. It’s just us here, trying to keep the place tidy and running for whoever shows up at the door.
