Indian Air Force

This is where we are stationed with the Indian Air Force, specifically the 2201 Sqn. We operate the air defence systems here. It’s not your typical office job, obviously. Our address is C/O 56 Apo, which is how we get all our mail and supplies. Sgt Kuldip and the rest of the team spend most of our time monitoring the equipment and staying ready. It’s a lot of shifts and staying focused on the screens. The environment is very disciplined but also quite practical. We live and work in the same general area, so there’s a strong sense of community among the personnel. It isn't about being fancy or having a nice view. It’s about the machinery and the duty. We eat together in the mess and talk about home or the work we’re doing. The days can be long, especially when there’s a lot of activity on the base. We don't have a customer service desk or a sales team. We just have our roles to play in the squadron. It’s a very different world from a regular civilian business. Everything has its place and there’s a procedure for everything we do. It’s honest, hard work that keeps us busy around the clock. We don’t really think about it in terms of a career path or anything corporate. It’s just what we do every day at the 2201 Sqn.
