Laxmi Nagar is a place that never really sleeps, and our shop at D-31 is right in the thick of it. India Telecom is a small space, but we have managed to fit a lot into it. There are wires hanging from the ceiling and stacks of recharge coupons behind the glass. The metro is close by, so we get a lot of students and office workers rushing in to get something fixed or to buy a new charger because they left theirs at home. It gets really loud outside with the rickshaws and the street vendors yelling, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. The floor is a bit worn down from all the foot traffic over the years. We have a small temple on the top shelf with some incense that we light every morning. It gives the shop a specific smell that we’ve grown used to. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use a battery light, which makes the whole place feel even smaller. We don’t have a fancy website or any of that. If someone needs us, they just walk down the lane in Laxmi Nagar and look for the blue sign. It’s a busy life, and there isn't much time for sitting around. We keep the counter clear as much as we can, but it usually ends up covered in phone parts by noon. It's just a typical neighborhood shop where we try to help out whoever walks through the door every day.
