India Habitat World

India Habitat World is located at C-47 in Mandir Wali Gali, which is right in the heart of Azadpur, Delhi. If you know the area, you know it’s always crowded and full of life because of the big market nearby. We’ve been operating out of this specific spot for quite a long time. Our work mostly involves coordinating different programs and looking after the daily tasks that come with running a community-focused space. The building itself is quite plain, and we don't spend much on making it look fancy. Inside, there are just regular offices where we keep track of our files and take phone calls from people across the city. The noise from the street outside never really stops, so we’ve gotten used to working with the sound of horns and vendors in the background. We don't have any big corporate mission statements or polished brochures to hand out. People usually just drop by because they’ve heard about us from someone else in the neighborhood. We spend a lot of our day just talking to folks and trying to help them find whatever information or services they are looking for. It’s a very hands-on kind of job. We open up the doors early and stay until the paperwork is mostly finished. It’s just a normal part of the Azadpur community, and we like it that way because it keeps us grounded and busy.
